Laser Wrinkle Removal

The procedure is relatively new, and in many cases it produces less bleeding, bruising, and post-operative discomfort than other resurfacing methods. Laser Wrinkle Removal with CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Laser wrinkle removal at Mississauga 's Plastic Surgery Clinic is accomplished using two methods: CO2 laser resurfacing and CoolTouch® laser wrinkle removal.
C02 laser resurfacing is the more intensive of the two laser wrinkle removal methods. Our Mississauga plastic surgeon uses CO2 laser resurfacing to treat deeper lines, more pronounced wrinkling, and scars. A beam of laser energy penetrates and vaporizes the upper layers of the skin at controlled levels. The precision of the instrument allows Dr. Lista to treat the skin's surface layers, the epidermis and papillary dermis, or to perform deeper resurfacing by removing the upper levels of the reticular dermis. After the damaged skin is removed, the healing process begins and smoother, tighter, younger-looking skin appears.
The CO2 Laser Wrinkle Removal Procedure
If you have chosen to undergo CO2 laser wrinkle removal treatment at our Mississauga clinic, Dr. Lista will prescribe skin creams that you will use for about one month before your procedure to prepare your skin.
Dr. Lista performs every CO2 laser wrinkle removal procedure personally because of the high level of skill necessary to achieve superior results. At the beginning of the procedure, Dr. Lista usually administers a local anesthesia with sedation. With this comfortable method, you'll be awake and relaxed, and you will feel almost no discomfort. If you are undergoing extensive wrinkle removal, Dr. Lista may choose to use general anesthesia so that you can sleep through the treatment.
In performing your CO2 laser wrinkle removal procedure at his Mississauga Plastic Surgery Clinic, Dr. Lista will precisely and carefully pass the laser's beam over the skin to reach the layer where the most favorable wrinkle removal or scar revision will result. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour-and-a-half. Because anesthesia is used, you'll need to arrange for a companion to provide you with transportation to and from the Plastic Surgery Clinic on the day of your procedure.
After the CO2 Laser Procedure
After your CO2 laser wrinkle removal procedure, you may need to apply special creams or ointments to protect your skin. In some cases, Dr. Lista will bandage the treated areas for more complete protection in the first five to ten days of healing. Mild swelling and discomfort can be expected after the procedure, but medications prescribed by Dr. Lista and the application of ice packs will keep this in check. If a bandage is necessary, you'll remove it after about a week and treat the skin with a thin layer of ointment. At this point, you can begin to gently wash the healing skin. Dr. Lista will provide full instructions on post-operative care, including how to wash your delicate skin. Dr. Lista cautions patients never to pick at the crusts that form on the treated area because this can result in scarring. Crusts should disappear after about ten days.
Your new skin will likely remain bright pink to red for several weeks after the procedure. Dr. Lista can provide creams that will accelerate the return to normal color. After two weeks, makeup can be used by most patients to conceal the redness. Most importantly, the new skin will be sensitive to sunlight, so you will need to use a strong sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and wear a hat when outdoors to prevent any sun damage to the new skin. Dr. Lista also recommends that you wear quality sunglasses with 100 percent UVA and UVB filters.
Laser Wrinkle Removal with the CoolTouch® Laser
The CoolTouch® laser differs from the CO2 laser because it penetrates the skin without causing visible damage to the top layers of the skin. This laser wrinkle removal technology at our Mississauga clinic is usually used on younger patients who have less pronounced wrinkles and lines. The CoolTouch® is a YAG laser with a special cooling head. The laser's beam stimulates collagen production by penetrating the skin. As the laser beam heats the dermal collagen, it becomes tighter and firmer. Because no injury occurs to the outer layers of the skin, no healing time is necessary after treatment. You will feel much like you have had a facial, and after your CoolTouch® laser wrinkle removal session, you can leave our Mississauga facility without any special preparation. Because the CoolTouch® laser treats only mild wrinkling, several treatments are generally necessary for optimal results, and results won't become apparent until several months after your treatments.
The CoolTouch® Laser Procedure
Laser wrinkle removal at our Mississauga clinic with the CoolTouch® laser requires no special treatment before the surgery. You'll arrive at the Plastic Surgery Clinic, and your CoolTouch® procedure will be performed by a registered nurse who has special training in using the CoolTouch® laser. Because the CoolTouch® treatment is so gentle, no anesthesia other than a numbing cream applied to the skin is necessary. The procedure generally takes about half an hour, and you'll be able to drive yourself home and return to your normal activities immediately afterward.

- Patients with dark skin may experience pigmentation change with any form of skin resurfacing. Dr. Lista will analyze your skin type and recommend the procedure best suited to your skin's characteristics.
- If you have taken Accutane® within the past 18 months, scar easily, or have a skin infection, you may not be able to have laser wrinkle removal.
- Scarring may result regardless of your predisposition for it.
- The treated skin may become obviously lighter or darker.

The patient receives a Biomedic skin care micro-peel or an Actifirm® enzymatic peel every other week for gentle but effective skin improvement. The Biomedic micro-peel is administered by a registered nurse who specializes in skin care. Described as being like an intensive facial, the Biomedic micro-peel uses derma-planing to remove the dead layer of keratin from the skin. Then, to stimulate new collagen production, our nurse carefully applies fruit acids to the skin. The skin gains substance and becomes smoother and tighter.
